montylynndeel Deel first entry to United States from Germany May 5 1785: Iris (DEEL) SERVAY Note: The first known ancestor in my Deel lineage was David Diel/Diehl/ Deel, born in Germany, came to America on the ship "Favorite", Captain Nicholaus Volans from Hamburg, Germany. David moved to Washington County, Virginia from eastern Virginia then to Russell County, Virginia, on Levisa River, now known as Buchanan County. When he came to this country his name was "David Diel" on the ship list (Which I have in my possession). He married Elizabeth Coleman, thought to have been full blooded Cheorkee indian. [From Joel HAGER post to Rootsweb.]: Family legend has it that David DIEL left Hamburg, Germany on May 5, 1785, arriving in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sept 5, 1785. The name of the ship was Favourite and Capt Nicolaus Valans was the ship's master. David's first wife was said to have been an Indian, probably Cherokee but this is hard to prove, for during this period of time marriages to Indians were not recognized as legal. Other sources speculate that his wife could have been a Melungeon, since Melungeons were considered to be social outcasts, this would explain why there are no marriage records for this couple . David was reported to have been a trapper and fur trader , it is also said that he was killed by an Indian. BIOGRAPHY: David moved to Washington County, Virginia from Eastern Virginia then to Russell County, Virginia, on the Levisa River, now Buchanan County. par http://www.gencircles.com/users/carolbrown/1/data/205 _PRIM Y
