About Presnells of Australia & England
My aim in developing this tree is to make as complete and accurate a record as possible of the various Presnell families in Australia, as well as some of the families that are connected to them by marriage. I would like to construct a useful reference for anyone with a Presnell in Australia in their family. I would also like to extend it back to England where possible.

I am descended from the first PRESNELL to arrive in Australia - William PRESNELL who was transported as a convict on Barwell to New South Wales in 1798. After a short time in NSW he was sent to Norfolk Island where he met and probably married fellow convict Ann FOWLER (although no records have been found). In 1808, after the decision to abandon the first settlement at Norfolk Island, William and Ann and their family were sent to Van Diemens Land.

Several other Presnells, some of whom were apparently related to William, came to VDL in the years from about 1820 to about 1840. These included William's mother, Sarah, who amazingly made the arduous journey at the reported age of 85! While connections to some of these other Presnells have not at this stage been made with 100% certainty, I have included the relationships which I, and several other Presnell descendants with whom I have been in contact, believe to be most likely. The connections made have been done with as much care as possible but there is still room for error. If you have any comments or queries, please contact me. I would be very grateful for any feedback.

At this stage I am just entering the "bare bones" of the tree but aim to add some biographical information and photographs in the future. Where dates do not have the day and month, they may be estimations. For the most part, living people have not been included. While my main interest is in the families connected to William PRESNELL, I am also in the process of adding other Presnell families that I have not been able to connect to my main Presnell tree. If you have anything that you are willing to contribute relating to any Presnells in Australia or the families that are connected to them by marriage, I would be most grateful if you could email me.

The information included here is the result of work not just by myself, but by a number of other Presnell descendants to whom I am extremely indebted. However, it is still a work in progress and I welcome any input. If you notice any errors or can add any information at all, even just more accurate dates or places, please email me.

I do have a lot more information on many of these people than I have been able to include here, so please email me if you would like more details. If you have any concerns about any of the information that appears here please also do not hesitate to contact me.
