The earliest record a of what I believe to be true Doye's in England is the marriage of John and Francis in Epping in 1794. This site shows a family tree of their decendants.
Any information that you have about the Doye's will be greatfully received.
LOCATION
Most lived in or near Epping then in the mid 19th centuary some moved to the Woolwich/Plumstead area and one couple emigrated to Bendigo in Australia.
SPELLING
The spelling of some early Doye's is inconsitant the same individual is sometimes written as Doye and sometimes Doy. These inidviduals are entered on this tree as Doye / Doy. Doy is a name found in Norfolk and Suffolk but no connection has been found by previous researchers. None of the Doy or Doye researchers I have contacted believe there to be a link. Both Doy and Doye are thought to be of French origin. One group of Doye's firmly believe the original spelling to be D'Oye.
QUERY
John Doye / Doy 2 may be the same person as John Doye / Doy 3
ORIGIN
Doye is a name found in France & Belgium, there is probably a connection but as the link is over 200 years old it is difficult to trace anything.
